General
Circular No. 001687
To: Heads of State Agencies and
Human Resource Directors
Subject: Leadership Development
Issue Date: March 19, 2007
We
are excited to announce that agencies may request a "Leadership
Development” series of courses through the CPTP program. Any agency
interested in this program is encouraged to contact Sam Breen, the CPTP
Administrator, at (225) 342-3620.
The
"Leadership Development” series is a way agencies can begin to prepare
less experienced employees (both supervisory
and non-supervisory) to take on more complex
duties, including but not limited to supervisory and managerial jobs, as more
experienced employees begin to retire.
Each
agency's "Leadership Development” course series can be tailored to the
needs of the agency. After contacting Sam Breen to express interest in
the “Leadership Development” program, the agency will be contacted by Dr.
Sharon Naquin of LSU (or a staff member) to discuss the agency's needs as well
as a class schedule that will best accommodate the agency's
workforce.
As
part of the program, participants will have an opportunity to complete a self-assessment
on a variety of leadership competencies to help identify their profiles and
better tailor the class materials.
There
are "core" courses that will be included in every leadership
curriculum, and the agency will be able to choose from a menu of other courses
to find the right combination of courses for its needs.
As
many of you are aware, a large number of experienced employees are eligible for
retirement or will become eligible in a short period of time. We encourage each agency to make use of the
“Leadership Development” program as part of its Workforce Planning/Workforce
Development efforts.
Again,
interested agencies should contact Sam Breen, CPTP Administrator, at (225)
342-3620 for additional information.
Sincerely,
s/
Director
