The Code Of Governmental Ethics

This Code, enacted by the Legislature, prohibits activities that would constitute a conflict of interest for state employees. Among other things, the Code prohibits you from:

 

  • Receiving a thing of economic value from any source other than your agency for performing your official duties and responsibilities

 

  • Receiving a thing of economic value for performing a service substantially related to your duties or which draws on non-public information

 

  • Receiving a thing of economic value for services rendered to or for:

 

    • persons who have or are seeking to obtain a contractual, business, or financial relationship with your agency

 

    • persons your agency regulates or

 

    • persons who have substantial economic interests which may be substantially affected by the performance or non-performance of your duties

 

  • Soliciting or accepting a thing of economic value as a gift from any of the persons listed above

 

  • Receiving a thing of economic value for assisting someone with a transaction with your agency

 

  • Participating in transactions with your agency in which you or your immediate family have an economic interest

 

  • Bidding on entering into, having an interest in any contract, subcontract or other transaction under the supervision or jurisdiction of your agency

 

  • Using your authority to compel or coerce a person to provide you or someone else with a thing of economic value that they not legally entitled to

 

  • Using your authority or office to compel or coerce a person to engage in political activity
